Thiago Alves Vs. Martin Kampmann Set For UFC On FX 2
By Mark Wayne | November 29, 2011 |
The latest in a string of match up announcements by the UFC is a welterweight tilt between Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann. The UFC rolled out a ton of match ups today for the next Fox show, as well as the first shows on FX and FUEL TV. The promotion is already planning out their second event on FX, with no venue or location announced yet, but a date of March 3 settled on. Currently, Alves vs. Kampmann is the only bout attached to the event.
One of the best welterweights on the planet, Thiago "Pitbull" Alves hit a rough patch recently that began with a unanimous decision loss to UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. From there, the 28-year-old bruiser would go back and forth from the win to the loss column, dropping decisions to Jon Fitch and Rick Story, while picking up wins over John Howard and Papy Abedi. Sporting a record of 19-8, Alves last competed at UFC 138 early this month, beating down UFC newcomer Papy Abedi before submitting him in the first round.
Martin "The Hitman" Kampmann is regarded by many to be one of the best welterweights to yet receive a shot at the title. Possessing immense skill both on the feet and on the ground, the talented Dutchman dropped two straight, very close decisions to Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez before getting back on track by taking out Rick Story via unanimous decision at UFC 139. Kampmann claims a pro record of 18-5.
