Miguel Torres On Why He's Dominick Cruz's Biggest Threat

Miguel Torres once held the most highly-regarded bantamweight championship in the world and the 30-year-old believes that it's only a matter of time until he holds it again.

WEC bantamweight champion over three successful title defenses, Torres hit a roadblock named Brian Bowles in what would have been number four, losing the belt after suffering a first round knockout. A consecutive submission loss to Joseph Benavidez would prompt Torres to switch up his training and rededicate himself to MMA. Since then, he's gone 3-1, with his only loss being a controversial decision to Demetrious Johnson.

A proud wearer of the East Chicago waterfall (that's his mullet, y'all), Torres got back on track from that decision loss by taking out Nick Pace earlier this month at UFC 139. The win starts Torres' climb back to the title, which currently belongs to Dominick Cruz and he believes is his for the taking. Torres recently appeared on the Sherdog Radio Network's Beatdown show, where he asserted his belief that he has the champ's number.

"I think I pose the biggest threat to him as far as anybody at 135," Torres said. "I don't know who he's fought with good leg kicks, that kick to the leg a lot, but I know a lot of the guys that I train with, that move like him, you hit them in the leg a couple of times, they don't move as much in the later rounds. And when he gets that takedown, I don't think he's fought anybody that's as dangerous off their back as I am. I think I pose a lot of threats for him on the ground. … I pose problems for him that he hasn't seen yet."
