Phil Davis was scheduled to face Rashad Evans earlier this year, but "Mr. Wonderful" was forced out of the bout due to a knee injury. Now, with "Suga" recovering from a hand injury of his own, Davis is more than willing to step inside the Octagon with the former UFC light heavyweight champion."That may be a fight that makes sense," said Davis, while appearing on MMAWeekly Radio recently. "He's still a top-five guy, definitely one of the best guys in the world, we'll see what happens. If that fight gets made, that's still pretty cool. I'd like that."
Evans was set to finally get his shot at the UFC 205-pound belt, but didn't have enough time to rehab his hand and get a full training camp in before a December 10 meeting with Jon Jones. Instead, Lyoto Machida will face Jones next month for the belt.
Davis, a former NCAA Div. I wrestling champion, is 9-0 in his MMA career, including five straight wins in the UFC. He is back to training full speed after his injury.
"I personally don't know or care, cause the great thing about me is you can give me somebody in the top-five, or the top-10, or you can give me somebody not in the top-10, and I'm still confident that I'm going to win regardless," Davis said. "If you want to pay me not to fight someone not in the top-10, cool. Let me know what's next. I don't make the decisions and I don't pretend that I do."
