Brock Lesnar Ready To Run Through Overeem To Get Back To The Belt

The UFC heavyweight title changed hands again this weekend, with hungry young Brazilian Junior dos Santos separating Cain Velasquez from consciousness and the belt with a powerful overhand right. Cigano will have little time to bask in the glory of his victory though, as former UFC champ Brock Lesnar and former Strikeforce champ Alistair Overeem meet to do battle late next month for the next shot at the heavyweight belt.Part of the Fox team of analysts (UFC on Fox: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos served as the UFC's Fox debut) Lesnar kept a close eye on the proceedings Saturday night, confident that he'll defeat Overeem for a chance to reclaim the title that he once held.
"I'm not in this just to be a contender," said Lesnar. "I'm in it to be the champion, to get my belt back. It's real simple: beat Overeem and beat whoever walks out with the title on November 12. And, that's exactly what I'll do."
A former professional wrestler with a standout college wrestling pedigree, Lesnar made his UFC debut after one professional fight, taking on former champ Frank Mir. Lesnar would succumb to a kneebar in that fight, but rebound to take out Heath Herring and then Randy Couture to win the heavyweight title. After defending the belt against Mir and Shane Carwin, Lesnar was TKOed by Velasquez to lose the title. He has been on the sidelines recovering from a second bout with diverticulitis, but is now one hundred percent and looking to get back in the title hunt.
UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem goes down on December 30 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
