WEC carryover Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone has proved, along with several of his peers, that the UFC's sister promotion wasn't housing inferior talent to the big show.Currently on a five-fight winning streak, Cerrone has gone 3-0 since transitioning to the UFC, running through the likes of Paul Kelly, Vagner Rocha and Charles Oliveira, so far. The Greg Jackson-trained scrapper has shown proficiency on the mat or on his feet and fights with an efficient brutality from every position. In short, he's making waves in the lightweight division, but he'll have to get past the similarly successful Dennis Siver this weekend at UFC 137 to keep his momentum going.
German striker-first Dennis Siver is on an impressive four-fight winning streak in the UFC, but Cerrone recently told MMAJunkie.com that he isn't all that impressed by what he's seen from the stocky bruiser.
"The one-trick pony? I've just got to either stay out or stay in," Cerrone said, in reference to Siver's vaunted striking ability. "[Siver's strikes] are not really effective if I'm in close, taking him down. It's not very effective if I'm out of his reach. Just don't let him dictate the pace. Come out sh***in' and gettin', in his face hardcore the whole time. I'm coming to win. No more playing around seeing what he has. F**k that. I'm here to show you what I've got, and that's what I'm going to do."
Cerrone will meet Siver this Saturday night, October 29, on the Spike TV-aired portion of the UFC 137: Penn vs. Diaz fight card. FightLine will be back on the night with live, ongoing coverage of the fights, which will take place from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
