Vila Vs. Dantas 135lbs. Tournament Final Set For Bellator 59
By Mark Wayne | October 24, 2011
135'ers Alexis Vila and Eduardo Dantas have advanced through the eight-main tournament field to make it to the finals, having beaten Joe Warren and Marcos Galvao, Wilson Reis and Ed West, respectively, to do so. The tournament semi-finals, in which Vila defeated Galvao and Dantas West, went down over the weekend at the Cocopah Resort and Casino in Yuma, Arizona.
40-year-old Cuban defect Alexis Vila has parlayed his time spent as an Olympic bronze medalist wrestler and top-flight wrestling coach (he helmed the team at Michigan State over Rashad Evans and Gray Maynard) into an undefeated career as a mixed martial artist; the American Top Team-trained fighter sports a record of 11-0.
Former Shooto champ Eduardo Dantas trains out of the famed Nova Uniao camp in Brazil and has spent most of his career competing for Shooto Brazil at 132lbs. The 22-year-old has a career record of 12-2, his only losses coming by disqualification and decision.
