Jose Aldo Open To Fight With Frankie Edgar, On One Condition

With MMA and the UFC exploding in terms of popularity, everyone feels like playing matchmaker. People talk of wanting to see Anderson Silva-Georges St-Pierre, Silva-Jon Jones, Jones-Cain Velasquez. Now, the idea of "superfights" is heading towards the lower weights, as talk of a Jose Aldo-Frankie Edgar bout is picking up steam.

Aldo, the UFC featherweight champion, recently defended his title with a decision victory over Kenny Florian at UFC 136. On the same card, and in the main event, Edgar topped Gray Maynard to retain his UFC lightweight title. The champion vs. champion fight is fine with Aldo, as long as it takes place at his weight.

"Man, I think it's great. Frankie is the lightweight champion, so if he moves down, no problem," said Aldo, in a recent interview with Tatame.com. "Just like Kenny did, and others are doing...to me, it's okay. I'll always fight the guys they point out for me to fight. Move up is (expletive)."

Both Aldo and Edgar have plenty of challenges laid out before them, so the odds of this contest happening anytime soon don't look good. "Scarface" is likely to meet Chad Mendes next, while "The Answer" has opponents such as Ben Henderson, Clay Guida and Gilbert Melendez to worry about.
