Tim Kennedy Likely The Next Strikeforce Fighter Headed To The UFC
By Mark Wayne | October 13, 2011
It's looking like Strikeforce middleweight Tim Kennedy may be the next fighter to jump ship and join the UFC's ranks. Though nothing has been announced officially, all of the signs point to Kennedy's new status as a UFC employee: his profile was uploaded on UFC.com shortly after the former U.S. serviceman changed the employer information section on his Facebook page from Strikeforce to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
The 32-year-old Kennedy served in the United States Army as a Green Beret, earning several accolades during his military career, which saw him do multiple tours overseas. Kennedy started his career while still serving and has amassed a career of 14-3. His only career losses have come against Scott Smith, Jason "Mayhem" Miller and, most recently, Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in a fight for the Strikeforce title. The Greg Jackson-trained fighter is currently riding a two-fight winning streak, having defeated Melvin Manhoef and Robbie Lawler.
Since the UFC acquired the Strikeforce promotion earlier this year, they have gradually siphoned off that organization's top talent. Already, Jason "Mayhem" Miller, former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz, former heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem and former light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson have all already made the move, with several more being forecast to follow suit.
