UFC 136: José Aldo Vs. Kenny Florian

The following is from our live coverage of UFC 136: Edgar vs. Maynard III. To access our full coverage, Florian relaxed and composed as he walks to the cage; Aldo looks focused and ready to go. Big Dan Miragliotta will be the third man in the cage for the featherweight title fight.
Round 1: They touch gloves and Florian lands a glancing leg kick. Florian with a head kick next; it's blocked. Another good inside leg kick by Florian. Aldo rushes forward with punches from both hands, backing Florian up. Florian shoots, but Aldo defends and makes him pay with hard punches. Florian telling the ref that he's getting poked in the eye. Florian drops for the takedown as Aldo moves in, he gets it but Aldo pops right back up. Florian stays on him and presses him into the fence. The crowd is growing restless as Florian presses Aldo into the fence. Florian hits the trip, but Aldo pops right back up. Florian gets him down briefly again and Aldo gets back to his feet. Florian is all over Aldo here, but Aldo breaks free. Florian clearly looking to time Aldo's strikes to hit the takedown. He presses Aldo into the fence again, looking for the takedown. Florian lands a knee to the body against the fence, an elbow. They trade shots at the bell.

Round 2: They touch gloves again and Florian immediately looks for the takedown. He misses it, but lands a good right. Florian looks to be throwing Aldo off some with his constant pressure and work from the outside. Aldo with a good left hook. Florian misses on another takedown and slaps a body kick. Aldo isn't throwing any kicks, possibly for fear of the takedown. A more measured pace in the second round, the crowd boos. Good inside leg kick by Florian, Aldo returns with two of his own. Florian sticks a good jab. Florian with a good inside leg kick. Aldo lands a head kick and then a good straight right. Aldo shucks Florian to the mat when he tries for the takedown and barely misses on a hard punch. Aldo with another good straight right and an inside leg kick. Florian lands another good leg kick. He drops for the takedown before the bell, but is denied.

Round 3: Florian opens the round with a leg kick. Aldo fires a right down the pipe. Florian opening up with his kicks, but he eats a one-two by Aldo. Aldo lands a hard right hand. Both men making the other miss. Aldo knocks Florian off balance with an inside leg kick and follows up with a one-two that stings Florian. Another right hand for Aldo. Another. Aldo throws a leg kick and avoids the takedown attempt by Florian. Aldo takes mount in the scramble, but Florian regains guard quickly. They scramble back and forth, but Aldo keeps top position throughout. Aldo looks to be taking a little rest while on top. Aldo slipping in some punches. Florian backs Aldo off with good hips and threatens with up-kicks, but Aldo moves back in and lands another shot before Florian tries for another takedown. Aldo defends. Florian drives for the takedown again with ten seconds to go.

Round 4: They touch gloves again. Florian with an inside leg kick. Aldo returns and it is checked. Aldo showing slick head movement and a knowledge of angles. Aldo with an inside leg kick. They clinch briefly. Aldo with a right hand-left hook combo. Florian tries for the takedown again and it's stuffed. Aldo lands a good knee as Florian presses him into the fence. Aldo finally shakes Florian off of him, but Florian dives right back in for the takedown. Aldo defends again. Florian is denied again on the takedown. Aldo turns Florian into the fence, Florian returns the favor and drops for the single. Aldo defends and lands a right hand. Again to the body and then a left hook to the head. Florian goes for the takedown again, pressing Aldo into the fence. The crowd is growing restless. Aldo lands a right hand before the bell.
