Stefan Struve and Pat Barry will likely be part of many upcoming highlight packages for the UFC after their bout Saturday night at UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson.Struve survived a Quinton "Rampage" Jackson-like slam attempt to continue locking in Barry's arm, never letting go as "HD" slammed the 6-foot-11 "Skyscraper" to the mat, earning the Submission of the Night.
"I'm not letting go when I get it on. Hell no," Struve said afterwards. "I'm so happy. I'm thrilled. After the last fight, this is really good."
Barry and Struve exchanged strikes as both kickboxers looked for an advantage. In the second round, Struve tried taking the fight to the floor, looking for submissions from his back. After Barry, who stands 5-foot-11 picked up Struve with his raw power, Struve found a slight opening and remained locked on the arm and wrist of Barry.
"I searched for the takedown once. He's a strong and stocky guy, so it didn't work, but I got him to the ground with a guillotine," Struve said. "I tried a D'Arce choke first but went back to the guillotine and tried to flip him over. He went with me and took side control, and I used my long limbs to (recover guard) and get a triangle."
UFC Live: Cruz vs. Johnson took place in Washington, D.C. Saturday night. In the main event, Dominick Cruz defended his UFC bantamweight title with a decision victory over Demetrious Johnson.
