Dan Hardy Already Learning Volumes Training With GSP
By Mark Wayne | September 28, 2011
There was plenty of heat between UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre and Dan Hardy leading up to their UFC 111 match-up last year, with the outspoken Brit doing his best to rile up the ever-collected Canadian champion. Hardy promised to drag St-Pierre into a gutter brawl, where he would knock out the champ with his vaunted heavy hands, while Rush maintained that he would keep his cool and expose Hardy for being a fighter and not a martial artist. Come fight night, it was St-Pierre who would actually make good on his pre-fight promise - at least partially.
St-Pierre dominated Hardy, standing with him just long enough to get him to open up for the takedown, which he would inevitably hit; once on the mat St-Pierre did his best to contort Hardy and break his limbs, but The Outlaw would not be put away. In the end, St-Pierre won via unanimous decision, but both men came away from that fight with more respect for the other; St-Pierre for Hardy because he showed indomitable spirit and Hardy for St-Pierre simply because the champ brought it to him.
Today, GSP revealed that whatever ill-will they once held for each other is completely water under the bridge, as he has brought in The Outlaw to help him train for his upcoming title defense against Carlos Condit. In the same day, Hardy already Tweeted that he's picking up volumes by training with the champ.
"I can see why George is the champ, he has a great team around him," wrote Hardy. "I've done one session and I'm already learning a lot."
St-Pierre will face Condit on October 29 in the main event of UFC 137, which goes down at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
