Though Matt Hughes was knocked out quickly by BJ Penn in his last fight, he was riding a three-fight winning streak prior to that and believes he still has what it takes to compete against the best in the world. Tomorrow night, he will do exactly that by taking on Josh Koscheck in the co-main event of UFC 135 - and what is also the last fight on his current UFC contract - and he has said that, win or lose, he plans on reevaluating his career following this bout.Citing the fact that he's not hurting for money anymore and that he would like to spend more time with his family, Hughes recently told MMAHeat's Karyn Bryant that he's going to be hanging it up sooner rather than later - he just wants to go out a winner.
"It probably depends a lot on my wife," Hughes admitted of the future of his career, with a laugh. "She sees the kids get sad when I leave, she gets real nervous fight week and especially fight time. She's been real smart with our money… We don't need the paychecks anymore. So, you've got to call it quits someday. I would love to go out on top. I hate seeing Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell go out with losses. I'd love to see them come back for one more fight, get their hand raised and then retire and I put myself in the same boat."
Hughes and Koscheck meet at the Pepsi Center tomorrow night; don't forget to check out FightLine.com's live, ongoing coverage of the event starting tomorrow at 6:30p.m. ET.
