Daniel Cormier is set to meet Josh Barnett in the finals of the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix early next year, as long as his hand injury doesn't push the fight back further. But, with many rumors of Strikeforce being absorbed by the UFC floating around the internet, Cormier was asked about his chances in the UFC heavyweight division.
The former Olympic wrestler had a somewhat surprising answer, though.
"To be honest with you, I would much rather go down to 205 and fight Jon Jones or whoever is the light heavyweight champion," Cormier told MMAFighting after Saturday's win over Antonio Silva by knockout in the grand prix semis.
Cormier, 32 years old, is a teammate with the current UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez at American Kickboxing Academy.
Cormier is 9-0 in his brief MMA career, which includes four wins by knockout and three by submission.
