Dana White Shoots Down Brock Lesnar Retirement Rumors
By Mark Wayne | September 02, 2011
Love him or hate him, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar is the UFC's biggest draw and many have been speculating about the former professional wrestlers future in the sport following a second flare-up with the intestinal ailment diverticulitis which forced him out of action and required surgery.Lesnar was to meet Junior dos Santos this past June in a heavyweight tilt upon the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter 13, where the two men served as opposing coaches. Experiencing extreme fatigue during his training camp, Lesnar went to the doctor to get checked out and learned that the disease which almost ended his career in 2010 was back in full force. To remedy his second bout with diverticulitis, Lesnar had to have twelve inches of his colon removed.
Considering the seriousness of the disease and the fact that it has been persistent in ailing Lesnar, rumors have sprung up consistently since it was first announced that he was again sick that the 34-year-old would soon be retiring from MMA; some have even gone as far as reporting that Lesnar's doctors have advised him to hang up his gloves out of concern for his health.
Last month Lesnar released a video in which -- between the mass-killing of prairie dogs -- he announced his impending return to MMA, though it did little to quell talks of his retirement. Today, on a media conference call held to announce the main event for the UFC's FOX debut, UFC president Dana White vehemently denied that Lesnar would be going anywhere anytime soon.
"That's ridiculous," White said of Lesnar retiring. "It's so far from the truth it's not even funny. He's one hundred percent. He was working on a farm in Canada all summer. His surgery went great, he's one hundred percent. He's getting back to training in a couple of weeks."
