Pat Curran KOs Marlon Sandro At Bellator 48

Pat Curran added himself to the highlight reel for future Bellator promos, scoring a head kick that knocked Marlon Sandro out at Bellator 48 Saturday night.

Curran, bleeding from below his eye, backed Sandro up with a couple of punches before delivering the right-footed kick that sent Sandro sprawling to the ground.

Curran (16-4) became the featherweight tournament champion, earning a future title shot against Joe Warren. He is also the first man in company history to win two different weight class tournaments, as he won the lightweight draw during season two.

"I'm speechless," Curran said. "I feel great. I can't explain it."

The younger brother of current UFC fighter Jeff Curran, Pat also picks up $100,000 for winning the tourney.

"Absolutely spectacular performance," Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney said. "(Curran is a) two-time tournament champion, and now he'll get a shot at the title."

Sandro was in control through much of the fight, using leg kicks, left hooks and uppercuts to keep Curran off balance.

Sandro (19-3) had never been finished before this loss.

In other action, Cole Konrad, the current Bellator heavyweight champion, defeated Paul Buentello by unanimous decision.

Konrad, a former NCAA champion at the University of Minnesota, selected to stand and punch with Buentello. The fighters received plenty of boos from the crowd, but Konrad was steadfast on showing his improving stand-up.

"I wanted to come out and show I could stand up with a great striker," Konrad said. "I think I showed some people that."

Seth Petruzelli scored a TKO victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez, ending the fight at 4:21 of the first round.
