Pat Barry Vs. Stefan Struve On For 'UFC Live 6'
By Mark Wayne | July 26, 2011
The UFC has announced that a heavyweight match up between Stefan Struve and Pat Barry has been set for UFC Live 6 this fall. Both men are coming off of knockout losses, which could very well result in fireworks as they battle it out to try and get back in the win column.Pat Barry was recently involved in some of the most surprisingly exciting moments of MMA ever just last month when he took on Cheick Kongo in the main event of UFC on Versus 4 (Barry vs. Kongo was promoted to the main event when Nate Marquardt was pulled out of the original main event for registering elevated levels of testosterone in his pre-fight medical exams). Barry came hot out of the gates, putting leather on Kongo early and repeatedly rocking the imposing Frenchman. The fight seemed moments away from being stopped before Kongo, while propping himself up on the fence, landed a hard right hand that staggered "HD" and a follow up shot that put him facedown on the mat, unconscious.
An accomplished professional kickboxer, Barry has gone 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the UFC, going back and forth between wins and losses; the Duke Roufus-trained fighter has balanced losses to Tim Hague, Mirko Filipovic and Kongo with victories over Dan Evensen, Antoni Hardonk and Joey Beltran.
23-year-old Dutch fighter Stefan Struve is also coming off of a first round knockout defeat, having fallen victim to a Superman punch delivered by Travis Browne when they met at UFC 130. Struve sports an overall record of 21-5, and a UFC mark of 5-3. The 6' 11" fighter has been defeated by the likes of Junior dos Santos, Roy Nelson and Browne, all via KO/TKO.
UFC Live on Versus 6 is expected to take place at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C. on October 1 and will feature a main event pitting UFC bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz against Demetrious Johnson in a title fight.
