Bobby Lashley Gasses But Still Earns Victory Over John Ott (With Full Fight Video)
By Raj Giri | March 26, 2011
Bobby Lashley likely didn't silence any critics after earning a unanimous decision victory over an undersized John Ott at Titan Fighting Championships 17 last night.Lashley opened the fight by slamming Ott, was was giving up 37 pounds, to the mat and delivering some vicious ground and pound. Lashley punished Ott for the entire first frame, in what clearly could have been scored a 10-8 round for Lashley.
A visible tired Lashley managed to do more of the same in the second round, albeit at a much slower pace, taking Ott to the mat and delivering some more ground and pound.
By the time the third round began, Lashley was absolutely exhausted and was having trouble standing. Ott started teeing off on the former pro wrestling superstar, while the crowd in Kansas City turned on Lashley and started cheering wildly for Ott. Just when it seemed that Ott may pull off the miraculous upset, Lashley once again managed to take Ott to the ground, where he was able to hold him for the rest of the fight as the crowd chanted "Stand them up!"
The three judges scored the bout 29-27, 30-27 and 29-27 and 30-27, although Ott left the fight with the respect of the crowd while Lashley left with the same criticisms that have dogged him since his upset loss to Chad Griggs last August - that he is strictly a wrestler, and doesn't have the tools and cardio to hang with the elite heavyweights in the sport.
"I was looking for something that wasn't there," Lashley said after the fight. "But it felt good. I needed it. I needed to spend some time out there. It was not as good as I wanted, but it was a victory.
"A win is a win," he continued. "We've got stuff to work on, but I felt good out there."
With the win, Lashley improves his record to 6-1, while Ott falls to 8-8.
