Georges St. Pierre: I Would Consider Holding Two Titles At Once

UFC welterweight champion and top pound for pound fighter Georges St. Pierre defended his belt for the fifth straight time over the weekend, taking out Josh Koscheck over five dominant rounds. The French-Canadian superstar has won his last eight without losing a round and his most recent win has been sparking talks that he should move to middleweight to test himself against fellow pound-for-pound great Anderson Silva.Speaking with UFC.com, St. Pierre discussed the move and revealed that he would be open to holding both the middleweight and welterweight belts simultaneously.
"I plan to do it at one point in my career," St. Pierre said of moving up to middleweight. "The problem is not to go up. The problem is to go back down after. And it's not good to play with your health because when you gain weight and you jump another weight class, the reaction time is different. The reaction time for a fighter is very important. You have the reaction time and the reset time. And this thing, when you add weight to yourself and you change weight class it changes, according to the weight class. So that's the problem. I want to make sure I've done everything I had to do in my division before I go up, because once I go up, I might for a little bit hold two titles at the same time, but as soon I'm going to go up and take care of business when I'm up, I'm going to let go of my other title."
St. Pierre has remained adamant that a move to middleweight would be a permanent one and that he is interested in facing Anderson Silva. He must get past Jake Shields first however, and they will likely face off this coming April at UFC 131 in Toronto. Silva also has to make at least one more title defense, as he and Vitor Belfort are set to face off this February.
