Kelvin Gastelum Does It Again, Remains Unbeaten With Submission Victory

While appearing on The Ultimate Fighter, Kelvin Gastelum expressed his appreciation for Ronda Rousey.

The UFC female bantamweight champion is known for her armbar submissions, and Gastelum could become known for his rear-naked choke ones.

The most recent winner of TUF scored his fourth submission win, and three in his last five fights via rear-naked choke, over Brian Melancon at UFC Fight Night: Condit vs. Kampmann 2 Wednesday night.

“I knew he had heavy hands, so I just wanted to get the finish,” he said. “I had to take advantage of him being rocked. I took his back and secured the lock.”

While making his way to the TUF finals, Gastelum choked out both Bubba McDaniel and Josh Samman. He proceeded to secue a split decision victory over Uriah Hall in the finals and is now 7-0 in his career.

After being the last pick of Chael Sonnen, Gastelum has continually exceeded expectations. When the 21-year-old was asked about his ability to shine under the lights, he simply stated, “I don’t know, man.”
