Ben Askren Questions Josh Barnett’s Past Ahead Of UFC Return

Josh Barnett’s first run in the UFC was stopped when he failed a post-fight drug test after becoming the UFC heavyweight champion.

Barnett returns to the Octagon Saturday night against Frank Mir in the co-main event of UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis.

Ben Askren, the current Bellator welterweight champion, took issue with “Countdown to UFC 164’s” decision to not bring up Barnett’s failed drug tests when talking about him on the program.

“Love how the Countdown show glanced over the fact Barnett tested positive for 3 banned substances after (Randy) Couture fight,” Askren wrote on Twitter, adding the user VADA Testing to his post.

Ever the Twitter-user, Barnett responded, posting, “I won’t even acknowledge VADA. They’re entirely agenda driven and that agenda is NOT sport.”

That prompted another response from Askren, who wrote, “Lol I know it doesn’t matter to you, but I can look at myself in the mirror and be ok with choices. In 20 years you will have a very hard time doing the same.”

Askren is rumored to be joining the UFC after his contract with Bellator expired.
