Brandon Vera Stronger, Happier Heading Into His Big Heavyweight Return

Brandon “The Truth” Vera hasn’t been the same character since a couple losses to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum at heavyweight. The two losses inspired Vera to make the cut down to the light-heavyweight division.

He managed to put on a couple solid performances at in 2009, but those were also two of the weakest opponents he’s fought in a few years. Vera hasn’t been able to string together back-to-back wins while facing top level 205 pounders, and has tallied up only a single victory in the past four years

After a tough loss to Maurico Rua in August 2012 at UFC on FOX 4 in Anaheim, CA., The Truth has decided to return to the heavyweight class to duke it out with the big boys.

The Truth speaks to Fight Now TV on how he feels now that he’s not having to maintain his weight at 205lbs:

“I’m training a lot, eating more. Holy s—t, it’s been so nice to eat! Training is fun again, I don’t come in tired, all my training partners say I feel stronger. I f—–g hate cutting weight man. I hate it. I absolutely hate it.”

Ben Rothwell will be Vera’s next opponent at UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis on Saturday (August 31, 2013) in Milwaukee, Wisc.
