Former UFC middleweight champion Murilo Bustamante doesn’t want to admit his fighting days are over, though he has no plans on returning this year or the near future.
“It’s complicated,” said Bustamante to MMA Fighting. “I’m pretty much retired from the rings. I have no time to train, actually. To get ready for a fight today would be really hard. I have other projects that are more important than stepping up into a ring.”
The 47-year-old began his career in 1991 and went 15-8-1. After defending the UFC belt once, he vacated it by signing with PRIDE. He last fought in 2012.
Bustamante said he could be lured back for one more fight if offered someone like Frank Shamrock or Carlos Newton.
