August 31, 2013 – UFC 164’s Brian Melancon will take to the Octagon after an impressive showing in his UFC debut, when he knocked the always tough Seth Baczynski unconscious with some heavy ground-and-pound.
Melancon says he wasn’t thinking about a next fight in the UFC before he and Baczynski met at UFC 162, his prime objective was to win his first UFC fight, then he would go from there.
“I was more than halfway out of fighting, and I was enjoying it,” he told Brian Hemminger of MMAMANIA. “The only reason I was told to do MMA was to get one win in the UFC. That’s what I had always said from the time before I even started training and enjoying the gym. I basically set a goal for myself that I wanted to get a win in the UFC, nothing else really mattered.”
Actually, Melancon had another battle to face, choosing between a career as a physical therapist or a UFC fighter before he made his Octagon debut.
Things are now starting to look up for Melancon, the power-puncher is slated to welcome TUF winner Kelvin Gastelum to the UFC welterweight division at UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis 2 later this month.
