Chael Sonnen surprised many by submitting Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in the opening round of UFC Fight Night 26. Murilo “Ninja” Rua, the older brother, thinks the former PRIDE star needs a new camp.
“He has a lot of shady persons around him, people trying to take advantage of him,” said Murilo to MMA Fighting. “People from his camp said I wasn’t good for Mauricio because I made him nervous when I was on his corner, and he listened to that, so I decided to leave. If something is wrong I would point it out, I wouldn’t just lie to please him.”
Murilo said when his brother returns home, they will talk about the latest defeat.
The win broke Sonnen’s two fight losing skid in what he’s billed as his final light heavyweight bout. His previous submission win was in 2011 against Brian Stann.
Rua is a former UFC champion who hasn’t mounted much offense as of late. He’s been defeated in most of his UFC fights, going 5-6.
Nothing is confirmed regarding their futures.
