Bellator promised to make their first PPV a memorable one and the addition of Eddie Alvarez vs. Michael Chandler for the lightweight belt has people talking. It’s a rematch from their 2011 Fight of the Year, when Chandler won the belt in four rounds.
Bellator veteran Patricio “Pitbull” Freire thinks a repeat performance is in the works.
“He will lose to Chandler again,” said Freire to MMA Fighting. “Alvarez got beat for four rounds. Chandler completely dominated him, knocked him down and submitted. Alvarez has better hands, but Chandler doesn’t get tired and is more explosive. Chandler is the favorite and will retain the title.”
Alvarez just resigned with Bellator, after a lengthy court battle over his contract. The former champ hasn’t competed since last October.
Chandler has taken two title defenses this year. The most recent one in July took Chandler less than a minute to remain champion.
Freire, who fights as featherweight, enters the Season 9 tournament opposite Diego Nunes. He won Season 4, but dropped the title fight. He returns at Bellator 99 on September 13.
