Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir is a seasoned veteran of MMA.
On August 31, he will do battle with another veteran, welcoming Josh Barnett back to the Octagon at UFC 164: Henderson vs. Pettis as the co-main event.
While everything hasn’t always been sunny-side-up for Mir during his UFC career, it is now something he can state publicly and proud.
“I remember when I first started,” Mir said, during a conference call Tuesday. “When I signed my first UFC contract, you didn’t brag about it. I tried to describe it a few times and no one had a clue what you were talking about.”
He continued, saying, “Nowadays, everybody wants to be a fighter. They think it’s cool to be in the Octagon; it wasn’t that way back in the day.”
Mir was defeated by Daniel Cormier earlier this year. He has been competing in the sport since 2001, compiling a career record of 16-7.
