UFC president Dana White can admit when he makes a mistake.
White mentioned the possibility of pairing a returning Nick Diaz with former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida in a middleweight contest.
Well, after digging deeper to make the bout happen, White has come to realize it isn’t the best of timing.
“It was a bad idea,” said White, during his post-fight media scrum recently. “Diaz didn’t turn it down. There’s other things going on with Diaz.”
Diaz retired after a loss to Georges St-Pierre for the UFC welterweight title earlier this year. He started his own promotion, WAR MMA, and held a card.
Rumors continue to float around about a potential return to action for the former Strikeforce champion.
As for Machida, it made is known that he would be willing to face Chael Sonnen if the former No. 1 contender needed an opponent. Sonnen topped Mauricio “Shogun” Rua this past weekend.
