Michael McDonald connected with a flurry of shots to Brad Pickett in the opening minutes of UFC Fight Night 26. As McDonald continued to land strikes, Pickett kept coming and wouldn’t be finished. It led McDonald to know submission was his best bet.
“I was thinking I need to stay calm and when I rock him, just be patient,” said McDonald to MMA Fighting. “He’s probably not going to fall and be unconscious, so I need to pace myself when I hit him.”
For their performance, they took Fight of the Night with McDonald also getting Submission of the Night for his triangle choke in round two.
McDonald was returning from an interim bantamweight title shot in February. At 22-years-old, he’s open to whomever the UFC offers.
UFC Fight Night 26 came from the TD Garden in Boston, MA. It was the first show on the new FOX Sports 1 channel and was yesterday, August 17.
