Former WEC champion Urijah Faber remained unbeaten in non-title fights, taking out Iuri Alcantara Saturday night at UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Sonnen.
Faber, who has won three straight since a loss to Renan Barao last year for the interim UFC bantamweight title, nearly looked finished in the early stages after Alcantara surprised him.
“I thought Iuri might have broke my jaw (in the opening minutes),” Faber said. “He might have dislocated it; he has tremendous power.”
After feeling that power, Faber stated he felt a “sense of urgency” to go to his game plan and take Alcantara down.
“He is a true Brazilian warrior,” he said. “I knew it would be tough. I had to use my skill level.”
All six of Faber’s career losses have come either for the title or while trying to defend it. That includes losses to Barao, Dominick Cruz and Jose Aldo.
