Pedro Munhoz became the Resurrection Fighting Alliance bantamweight champion Friday night, besting Jeff Curran via split decision in the main event of RFA 9: Munhoz vs. Curran.
The card, which aired on AXS TV, featured the first regional promotion to use the term “Octagon” and the structure that the UFC uses for each event. RFA is being looked at as a feeding system for the UFC, with manager Ed Soares serving as president.
Curran, a veteran of the sport, announced his retirement following the loss.
In other action, Kevin Casey, a former competitor on The Ultimate Fighter, topped Casey Ryan, Brian Ortega submitted Jordan Rinaldi and ex-Olympian Steve Mocco downed Lew Polley.
