Urijah Faber is healthy and ready to keep fighting. At the same time, bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz is out indefinitely and interim champ Renan Barao is coming off his own injury. Now, Faber wants some superfights while he waits.
“I would like to have some big fights in the future,” said Faber at Wednesday’s open workouts. “I’m going to talk to Dana [White] and Lorenzo [Fertitta] and see if we can set up some superfights. Maybe go up to 145 and do some stuff. I feel like I need to be in some fights that really matter. Kind of, but we’re focusing on my fight.”
At 28-6, Faber’s two UFC defeats came from Cruz and Barao. Before that, he was a force in the WEC’s featherweight division. He’ll look for his third win this year opposite Yuri Alcantara.
Alcantara is 3-1 for the UFC and last defeated Iliarde Santos. It was his second outing as a bantamweight.
They’re on the main card of UFC Fight Night 26 this Saturday, August 17. It’s from the TD Garden in Boston, MA.
