Nick Diaz, a former Strikeforce champion and one-time contender to the UFC welterweight title, has not decided to come out of retirement – yet.
However, if he wants to fight in the Octagon again, UFC boss has a fight in mind: Lyoto Machida.
“I talked to Diaz (Wednesday) and I made him an offer, so we’ll see what happens,” said White, during a special Q&A in Boston (thanks to MMAjunkie.com for the quotes). “He had been talking about going to 185 pounds. Machida has been talking about going to 185 pounds.
“So we wanted to see if he wanted to fight Machida at 185.”
Diaz (26-9) last fought in March, falling to Georges St-Pierre for the title. He promptly retired, started his own MMA promotion, and has been doing his own thing.
Machida (19-4) is coming off a loss to Phil Davis. He has talked in the past about a move from light heavyweight middleweight, but always decided against it because Anderson Silva was the champion at the time.
