Cain Velasquez’s only motivation heading into the trilogy fight with Junior dos Santos is the gold around his waist. So far, each heavyweight has earned a win over the other.
“There’s a lot at stake,” said Velasquez to Sports Net. “There’s something I want to keep and something he wants to come in and take away from me. That’s all the motivation I need.”
The two fights between them were complete opposites.
Santos won the belt with an early round one win. It was Velasquez’s first loss and he expressed a knee injury could have played a factor. The rematch closed 2012, with Velasquez easily taking back his title after five rounds.
They’re set for UFC 166 on October 19. It comes from the Toyota Center in Houston, TX.
