While MMA might return to Showtime, it won’t happen this year. Stephen Espinoza, Showtime’s executive vice president of sports and event programming, said the TV network is currently full.
“We are continuing to evaluate MMA opportunities,” said Espinoza to MMA Fighting. “But given our very busy programming slate for the rest of 2013, any new MMA programming would have to debut in 2014.”
Strikeforce was the final MMA show to broadcast on the network. It was in January of this year and the promotion’s final event. Their first MMA show was EliteXC’s inaugural card in early 2007.
Without the presence of MMA, boxing has seen an increase on the station.
