Dominick Cruz’s relationship with the UFC remains strong, despite the bantamweight champion not being able to fight for the past two years due to an ACL injury. UFC president Dana White and owner Lorenzo Fertitta have told Cruz they don’t plan on stripping him of the belt.
“They’ve had my back in this situation,” said Cruz on Inside MMA. “They’ve been very supportive and I’m very appreciative to the UFC for the rest of my life for the way they’ve taken care of me. They could have handled this several different ways. They’ve been very supportive.”
The ACL injury was operated on, but deemed a failure and a second one had to be done. Cruz has no return date, but is leaning towards spring of 2014.
Cruz is 19-1 and defended the belt three times. He hasn’t fought inside the Octagon since October 2011.
