Nick Newell left XFC for a larger promotion, signing a several fight deal with the World Series of Fighting (WSOF). In typical Newell fashion, he took another win in the first round to improve to 10-0.
“I just want to be number one, fight the best and take the belt,” said Newell to Sherdog. “Whatever they want, I’m down for. I didn’t come into this sport to lollygag around. I’m ready for anything. I’ll be ready.”
The former XFC lightweight champion wanted to prove he’s more than a one armed fighter. Newell also garnered attention for missing most of his left arm below the elbow. Only once has Newell gone past the opening round.
He defeated Keon Caldwell in two minutes at WSOF 4, making him 9-2.
WSOF officials have spoken about a four person tournament to name their first lightweight champion. With Newell’s win, he’s expected to be one of the announced names.
They were on the main card of WSOF 4 which aired on the NBC Sports Network. It was yesterday, August 10, from the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA.
