Nick Newell is just as dangerous with one arm as most fighters are with two, and showed that Saturday night at World Series of Fighting: Spong vs. DeAnda.
Newell scored a seventh career submission victory over Keon Caldwell, locking in a first round guillotine. He was honored with an American flag from the Wounded Warriors foundation after the win.
“To be living the dream, I know how hard I worked (to get here),” Newell said. “It means a lot to me. I know what it’s like to be at the bottom and now I am at the top, and I am not letting anyone take it away from me.”
Newell (10-0) used his exceptional wrestling to take Caldwell (9-2) down numerous times in the first three minutes. He planned to stand and trade, but didn’t let the opportunity to submit Caldwell pass him by.
“I had a bunch of ways I thought I would beat him, and this was one of them,” Newell said. “A lot of people dream about making it this far; I am here and I want it.”
