Tyson Griffin vs. Gesias Cavalcante

We begin with lightweight fighters Tyson Griffin (16-6) and Gesias Cavalcante (17-7-1). Griffin is a veteran of the UFC, while Cavalcante is an ex-Strikeforce fighter. The referee will be Jason McCoy.

Round 1: Pair of former top contenders looking to get back on track here. Nice exchange of rights, as this has been all-striking through the first minute of action. Cavalcante looking more fluid, mixing it up and hitting combos. Griffin goes for a takedown and eats a huge kick to the midsection. Griffin scores with a takedown as the round comes to an end.

Round 2: Got some anger from Griffin, as Cavalcante didn’t want to break the hold at the end of the first. Cavalcante, though, gets the better of the flurry, working the body on the ground with some nice knees. Cavalcante backs Griffin up with a pair of jabs, but the ex-UFC fighter storms back with his own. Strong leg kicks landing by Griffin, but not enough to keep Cavalcante from continuing to push forward.

Round 3: Cavalcante into the guard right off the bat in this final round. “JZ” all over Griffin, taking his back, landing lefts and rights and forcing the referee to step in. Griffin gets right up and is arguing with the referee, trying to say that he was attempting something from the ground. Regardless of Griffin’s arguing, this one is all over.
