Urijah Faber has missed out on several chances to take UFC gold and plans to capture a belt at some point. “The California Kid” couldn’t win the bantamweight belt or the interim version.
“I think there’s no secret that I’m one of the top guys in the world,” said Faber on MMA Junkie Radio. “I have been for the last 10 years, and I’m going to continue to be. [I’m going to] get that belt and continue to build my brand and make my name.”
Since his two UFC title defeats, Faber has won twice this year. He used the rear-naked choke to finish Ivan Menjivar and Scott Jorgensen. Faber takes on Yuri Alcantara later in the month.
Alcantara is 3-1 for the UFC and coming off an early win of Iliarde Santos.
They’re set for the main card of UFC Fight Night 26. It comes from the TD Garden in Boston, MA on August 17 and is the first show on the new FOX channel.
