Matt Brown has no trouble finding fights, as the UFC is always calling on short notice wondering if the welterweight would fill the role as a replacement. It’s paid off with Brown taking the most wins for the UFC in 2012.
“They called me to fight Thiago [Alves] less than a week after my last fight,” said Brown on MMA Junkie Radio. “They were already ready to do it. When he got hurt, they just called me and said, ‘You’re fighting Mike Pyle.’ That’s pretty much all it was. They didn’t really give me much of a choice.”
Following four consecutive wins for the UFC, Brown continued his role by stopping Jordan Mein this year. He earned Fight of the Night for his performance and looks to duplicate that with Pyle.
Pyle won his last four, finishing three within the opening round.
The welterweights are on the main card of UFC Fight Night 26 on August 17. It comes from the TD Garden in Boston, MA and is the first show on the new FOX channel.
