When Gesias Cavalcante was informed that the World Series of Fighting (WSOF) had lined up UFC veteran Tyson Griffin for him, the middleweight couldn’t be happier.
“These are the kind of fights I like – big names, big stages,” said Cavalcante on MMA Junkie Radio. “I’m hungry and I have a big appetite, so it’s good. I’m excited. When they gave me the name, I was like, ‘Good – that’s a good fight to get my name in the mix again and get some recognition.'”
Cavalcante is 17-7 with the last few years seeing him compete for DREAM and Strikeforce. He took more losses than wins for both promotions. At WSOF 1, he quickly submitted TJ O’Brien then took a loss to Justin Gaethje on the following show.
Griffin was with the UFC for over five years before being released off three straight losses. He took Fight of the Night five times as he debuts for the WSOF.
They meet on the main card of WSOF 4 this Saturday, August 10. It comes from the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA and airs live on the NBC Sports Network.
