Ricardo Lamas has heard the news that Jose Aldo broke his foot and is likely out for the remainder of the year. While Aldo has been teasing a move to lightweight, Lamas is more than willing to wait at featherweight if the UFC can guarantee a title shot.
“If they can promise me a title shot, I’ll wait for it,” said Lamas to USA TODAY Sports. “I’ve got to talk to them and see what’s going on. If he’s going to move up or be out for a long time, I should be in there against whoever they want to put me against for the interim title.”
Originally, Lamas was supposed to meet the “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung at UFC 163. An injury allowed Jung to enter the title picture and left Lamas off the card.
Aldo is undefeated as featherweight, having taken seven title defenses from the WEC and UFC.
Lamas will speak with the UFC later in the week to discuss where he stands.
