Florida Law Cancels Bout Between Down Syndrome Fighters

This past Saturday’s planned fight between Garrett Holeve and David Steffin, who both have Down’s syndrome, was cancelled by Florida officials last minute. The fight was to have taken place at an Indian Casino in the state.

WINK News is reporting the state presented the promoter with a cease and desist letter. It read the bout between the two amateur fighters is unsanctioned and against Florida Law

Holeve had been training the past eight weeks and is heartbroken, said his father Garrett.

“He’s upset because he knows he’s being told he can’t fight because he has Down syndrome and that hurts his feelings and that angers him,” said Garrett to WINK News.

No comment from Steffin was provided.
