Glover Teixeira Being Groomed As Next Contender At Light Heavyweight

With an impressive win over Ryan Bader next month, Glover Teixeira would place himself in the role as No. 1 contender to the UFC light heavyweight title.

The two meet on Septmeber 4 at UFC Fight Night: Bader vs. Teixeira from Brazil.

During the post-fight press conference for UFC 163: Aldo vs. Korean Zombie Saturday night, Marshall Zelaznik, an executive with the promotion, confirmed that UFC president Dana White and matchmaker Joe Silva believe “with a strong victory by Glover, he probably gets the winner of Jon Jones (Alexander Gustafsson).”

Those two meet the same month from Toronto at UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson. “Bones” mentioned the Brazilian during the recent UFC World Tour as a viable contender and someone he is interested in fighting.

Since entering the UFC, Teixeira (21-2) has won four straight, including a recent win over former champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
