Michael Chandler just signed a new eight fight deal with Bellator and will start it off on a great note. At Bellator 97, he finished David Rickels in under a minute to close the show. The entire 44 seconds was somewhat of a blank for Chandler post-fight who said that’s how the sport plays out sometimes.
“It’s just a testament to my hard work, coaches and training partners,” said Chandler to Sherdog. “I don’t remember much at all. It’s such a crazy sport. You could get finished so quickly, so fast just by getting hit in that button. I found his tonight. If I fought a healthy David Rickels tomorrow he could go five rounds. He has a gas tank and goes hard. Luckily I was blessed to finish him quickly.”
Chandler is a perfect 12-0 and has two title defenses to his name. Both were stoppages with the other coming from Rick Hawn at Bellator 85.
Rickels entered the fight off two decisions and a finish in the finals. It was his second Bellator tournament appearance and he’s 14-2.
Bellator 97 came from the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM. The main card aired live on Spike TV this past Wednesday, July 31.
