Ben Askren didn’t have any problems controlling the four rounds he went with Andrey Koreshkov and was able to remain the welterweight champion at Bellator 97. The champion felt his cardio was topnotch and he deflated Koreshkov’s confidence.
“I’m tougher than anyone I know,” said Askren to Sherdog. “The longer the fight goes, the better I’m going to do. I just kept wearing him out until you saw him get demoralized to the point he wanted out in that final round.”
The win keeps Askren undefeated at 12-0. Nine of those wins have come for Bellator with four title defenses. It was his second stoppage of the year.
Koreshkov was undefeated before the fight with 13 wins. The Russian took two decisions and a knockout to win the Season 7 tournament.
They were the co-main event of Belaltor 97, which was July 31. It came from the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM.
