UFC 163: Prelim Breakdown

The UFC is back in Brazil this weekend. UFC 163 is highlighted with featherweight champion Jose Aldo taking on the “Korean Zombie” Jung Chan-Sung.

Before that, there’s still the preliminary card which is made of seven fights. Three stream via Facebook and the rest on FX.

UFC 163 is this Saturday, August 3, and comes from the HSBC Arena. The prelims start at 6:35 p.m. ET on Facebook with the FX part set for 8 p.m. ET. Stay with FightLine for play-by-play of the card and the events that follow.

Below is a breakdown of the 14 fighters who are on the prelims.

Light Heavyweight: Ednaldo Oliveira vs. Francimar Barroso
The show opens with light heavyweight action. Ednaldo Oliveira took a quick round one submission loss in his UFC debut. Before that, he was undefeated. Francimar Barroso has been in the sport since 2005. He’s 11-2 in his latest run.

Welterweight: Viscardi Andrade vs. Bristol Marunde
One case of many sees an American vs. Brazilian. In the past two years, Viscardi Andrade has taken six wins. Majority of his fights have ended by stoppage. Bristol Marunde entered the UFC off a loss from Strikeforce, which was followed by a knockout defeat to The Ultimate Fighter’s (TUF) Clint Hester.

Featherweight: Rani Yahya vs. Josh Clopton
The Facebook part ends with the featherweights. Rani Yahya had two straight losses from the WEC when he hooked up with the UFC. He’s since gone 3-1 and has taken the last pair. Josh Clopton is 6-1 with the lone defeat coming at TUF 14 Finale. He hasn’t fought since that December 2011 loss.

Flyweight: Ian McCall vs. Iliarde Santos
The FX portion of UFC 163 opens with the energetic flyweights. Ian McCall joined the UFC as part of their inaugural flyweight championship tournament. He didn’t win and McCall lost his following match. Iliarde Santos is a veteran with a 27-7 record. He lost his debut to Iuri Alcantara in January.

Welterweight: Sergio Moraes vs. Neil Magny
The final welterweight contest is up. Sergio Moraes has been with the UFC for a year and gone 1-1. He also fights at middleweight. Neil Magny was 7-1 when he became a member of the UFC’s roster. He took a decision over Jon Manley in his only appearance for the promotion.

Women’s Bantamweight: Amanda Nunes vs. Sheila Gaff
The only female fight on the card is next. Amanda Nunes comes into the Octagon after a 1-1 run for Invicta FC. She had spent time in Strikeforce. Sheila Gaff’s UFC debut saw her eat a first round loss to Sara McMann. The German had three straight wins prior, with two from Cage Warriors.

Light Heavyweight: Vinny Magalhaes vs. Anthony Perosh
The prelims end with the second of three scheduled light heavyweight bouts. Since returning to the UFC, Vinny Magalhaes is 1-1 and comes off a loss from Phil Davis at UFC 159. Anthony Perosh is 3-2 for the UFC. He’s finished all three wins within two rounds.
