Michael Chandler plans to leave Bellator 97 still the lightweight champion. He expects his friend Ben Askren to retain his welterweight gold and the two will then see where the night takes them.
“He’s going to go out there and dominate and then I’m going to follow suit,” said Chandler to USA TODAY Sports. “Then we’ll hang out afterward.”
The show is headlined with Chandler making his second title defense of the year opposite David Rickels. Chandler is undefeated with 11 wins.
Askren puts his title on the line for the fourth time against Andrey Koreshkov. The champ is also a perfect 11-0.
Bellator 97’s main card starts at 7 p.m. ET on Spike TV. It comes from the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, NM.
