Phil Davis knows he can make a sudden jump up the UFC light heavyweight ladder with a win over Lyoto Machida this Saturday night at UFC 163: Aldo vs. Korean Zombie.
Machida, a former champion, is currently the top-ranked contender. Davis, meanwhile, is rated seventh in the latest UFC poll.
As for what could be next for “Mr. Wonderful” with a win, he isn’t overly concerned with that at the moment.
“It’s for the fans to decide,” said Davis, appearing on “UFC Tonight” Tuesday. “I love this sport because the fans decide who fights for the title.”
Davis, who is the only fighter to defeat current title-contender Alexander Gustafsson, wants to duplicate his win vs. “The Mauler” this weekend.
“I plan on submitting everybody,” he said. “I plan on going in there and submitting the other guy. He goes home happy, a little bit sore, and nobody is hurt.”
