The UFC flyweight division is still developing, but that hasn’t stopped talk of champion Demetrious Johnson meeting a heavier challenger in a superfight.
“At the end of the day, it’s all about what the UFC wants,” said Johnson on The MMA Hour. “I’m focused on 125, my mind is set on 125 and I want to fight everybody there and clean the division out. I would not mind having a super fight. I think it’s something fun that fans would love to see. I’m not saying my next fight is going to be a super fight. I’m focused on flyweight and I have a lot to accomplish there.”
Johnson was a bantamweight until losing a title fight to Dominick Cruz in 2011. He would cut to flyweight and entered a tournament to name the inaugural champion. Since winning the belt, he’s defended the gold twice.
He submitted John Moraga in the final championship round at UFC on FOX 8 over the weekend.
